About the role

  • The base location for this role is the new site in Derby however a flexible location will be considered for the first 12 months with frequent time will be spent in Newcastle. 

Reporting to the Technical Project Manager you will initially be responsible for supporting the expansion of our Supply Chain and Logistics network, with a focus on the new Midlands campus sites and transition from our existing SAP systems to S4Hana. The role requires you to have a strong technical and systems knowledge, excellent communication skills, ability to lead a team, highly organised and work independently with minimal supervision.

Once the site is operational you will be the most senior technical person on the site, with direct responsibility for food safety and quality standards. You will be part of a small but effective QA team that is heavily involved with day-to-day factory floor operations for low risk manufacturing, ensuring high standards are maintained.

Initially the role will involve occasional travel; therefore, flexibility and a full clean driving licence is essential.

What you'll do

For the first 12-24 months you will

  • Support the delivery of Midlands campus and transition to SAP S4Hana by attending workshops and project sessions as required.
  • Liaise with wider support teams to ensure business requirements are met in relation to SAP S4Hana, including links to specifications and management of stock
  • Lead in the development of new processes and systems relating to the operational changes in the Midlands campus, radial sites and the transition to SAP S4Hana, ensuring they are fit for the future.
  • Proactively work with the project, technical and cross functional teams across the business and at sites to ensure product safety, legality and quality is consistently delivered and maintained.
  • Leading the HACCP team, ensuring full development and implementation of a HACCP plan and prerequisites
  • Support and develop project teams and external contractors in their technical awareness, ways of working and driving continuous improvement
  • Develop and manage the sites allergen management and risk assessment process
  • Recruit and direct the Quality Assurance team for the new site

Once the site is operational you will also be responsible for

  • Steering the annual site BRCGS audit and ensuring the site works to the requirements of the BRCGS Food standard, always
  • Ongoing review of HACCP plan and on site systems
  • Facilitating product recalls and withdrawals
  • Providing management reports on levels of performance for KPI data
  • Assisting with the completion of internal audits and inspections
  • Managing non-conformances and corrective / preventative actions

About you

We are looking for individuals who are driven, and can demonstrate: 

  • A Degree level education in a Food Science based subject or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years food manufacturing (including logistics) experience on a complex site
  • Understanding of SAP or similar ERP systems and implementation
  • HACCP Level 3 and Food Safety Level 4 qualifications
  • Practical knowledge of the BRCGS Food Standard and Quality Management Systems
  • Internal audit qualification and experience auditing against the BRCGS food standard
  • Ability to multitask and manage several projects at the same time.
  • Proven experience of leadership, decision making and team management
