We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our Central Logistics team as the Transport Solutions Manager, reporting direct to the National Transport Manager.
The successful candidate will provide expertise in transport strategy and solutions in our distribution networks. They’ll lead a small but exceptionally capable team of planning experts and delivery point assessors, both managing the day to day, but also leading on the future, innovating, implementing and delivering solutions.
The base location for this role is flexible, and the successful candidate can be based anywhere within the country. Ability to spend time at Greggs House, Newcastle upon Tyne when required. To be successful in this role, travel to our distribution centres nationally will be required often

About the role
- This is a full-time role, however flexibility in this will be considered

What you'll do
- Act as a key and effective member of the Central Logistics team, driving efficiencies and KPI continuous improvement
- Lead the team behind delivery excellence, focussing on sustainable retail growth though lean and efficient transport strategy.
- Manage a team of 3 Transport Optimisation Managers and 4 Delivery Point Assessors.
- Liaise with relevant stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of projects throughout the transport workstream.
- Keep up to date with developments in fleet, systems and technology, engaging with the market and applying to the business where appropriate.
- Ensure that all plans delivered are fully legally compliant and also comply with our internal standards to reduce driver fatigue which are over and above the legal minimum
- Communicate with and influence regional teams and head office colleagues with respect to optimisation existing processes and strategies
- Ensure there is a clear focus on giving our customers the best level of service we can, both internally and externally
- Drive change initiatives through the logistics organisation
- Mentor and develop the transport solutions team
- Engage, manage and review our contractors and suppliers, owning their relationships with Greggs, and ensuring they continue to grow with our business to provide the services we need in the future.
About you
You will fit right into this role if you:
- You’re experienced working in the transport and distribution industry, both operationally and in strategic or planning roles.
- You have experience of managing people, particularly in a unionised setting.
- You have experience route planning with Paragon and have a good understanding of the wider systemic planning tool market.
- You are familiar with Microlise, and the deployment of a TMS.
- You are an advanced user of the Microsoft O365 platform, including Power Platform.
- You’re skilled in managing data, data analysis and solving problems and have an excellent working knowledge of transport and logistics systems
- You’re able to diagnose and implement practical process improvements with a strong customer focus
- You’re self-motivating and results focussed, with a desire for continuous improvement
- You have excellent planning and organisation skills, capable of working autonomously on strategic objectives.
- You have strong experience in Retail and Manufacturing logistics, particularly in supply chains leveraging automation in cold chain.
- You’re comfortable communication both verbally and in writing with a wide variety of stakeholders
- Your hold a Project Management skills accreditation from a professional body (e.g., CILT)
- You have a logistics qualification e.g., Diploma, Degree level.
- You have your Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) and a valid driving licence
